Rural Residency ProgramThe highlight of a Residency placement in Greater Dufferin includes working in a modern new hospital – Headwaters Health Care Centre – with an excellent, supportive staff. Of particular interest is Headwaters’ highly regarded Emergency Department, its completely digital diagnostic imaging and its staff of three obstetricians (it should be noted that a number of family doctors also do obstetrics). The Family Practice portion of the Residency Program is spent in the offices of Dr. Wilson, Dr. Stenning, Dr. Knox, Dr. Palad or Dr. Mallin. Dr. Mallin’s practice includes working in both Orangeville and Grand Valley which offers a unique village experience. Residents have the opportunity of availing themselves of supervision with internal medicine specialists, emergency physicians, general surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, ENT, anaesthesia, OBS. Geriatric training is provided at the Avalon Care Centre, a large local accommodation Nursing Home/Retirement Centre. Remuneration is by hourly wage which varies depending on time and day of the week. Approximately 36,000 patients visit Headwater’s ER each year. Headwaters is a family doctor run hospital. Family doctors primarily look after most in-patients with consultant support from specialists. Headwaters operates with a friendly and comfortable atmosphere where specialists and family doctors depend on one another. Family Practice OpportunitiesHighland Family Practice ClinicCompleted in the fall of 2003 the Clinic provides a fully equipped, turnkey operation to physicians establishing a family practice in the community including an IT system. The clinic’s group practice will support ten physicians; currently six are working in facility. The clinic has a complete electronic medical records system, including lab and diagnostic services. Computers, in each examining room, have installed software that meets Ministry of Health specifications for clinical management software. Orangeville Family Medical CentreThe Orangeville Family Medical Centre, with five doctors, is seeking new associates. This progressive physician group has created a centre where the practice of medicine is enjoyable and supportive of its members. The clinic opened in 1998 with a fully computerized EMR. There are 18 versatile exam rooms (each equipped with a computer), a shared waiting room and common space such as a doctors’ lounge. There is a surgical area for minor procedures. Nurses assist the physicians to prepare the patient for the visit and support staff provides reception, filing, EMR entries and accounting. The Centre is recognized for its design, efficiencies and creativity in a family practice setting. It became a Family Health Network in June 2005. |
